The brief was to make a roundwood-framed outdoor lounge and kitchen area for a client who wanted an alfresco cooking and dining experience.
The larch frame was made to show off natural forms of the wood as much as possible, while metal supports specially engineered for the job allowed a wide open central space, and happened to include recycled parts of a nuclear submarine!
The timbers were hand-selected for character, stripped and the frame made with heavy mortice and tenon joinery. The structure was completed with a cedar shingle roof, concrete formwork kitchen, including a custom-cast sink and a 4m long dining table made from live-edge douglas fir.
