The client had been wanting a sauna for a while, but had no space in his home, but plenty outside! Meanwhile it was becoming clear that there could be benefits to having a sauna that could be moved around site according to will... sometimes in the big meadow with the beautiful views, and sometimes down by the stream where a plunge pool was being made.
I sourced a strong trailer, stripped it down to a simple chassis, and built a cabin to house the sauna and a changing room, incorporating a light birch plywood changing room inspired by Japanese design, as the client had previously lived in Japan.
A beautiful Estonian wood-burning stove completed the setup, with traditional round river stones. Both the sauna and the changing room have lighting powered by an off grid system charged by a solar panel fixed to the curved aluminium roof, and the glass wall allows the view into the experience.
